2 Things Busy Dads Do WELL to Maximize Time With Their Kids (and grow that relationship)

Busy dads understand TWO important things and do them very well as it relates to how they're showing up for their kids.

It looks different for every dad and we shouldn't compare, but we often do.

We were recently in FL for a family vacation.  In the morning I would walk to the beach and walk about 2 miles.  One morning I saw a dad and his son out surfing 🏄‍♂️ at 6:30am. The young boy couldn't have been older than 6 or 7, it was so sweet to see!

That got me thinking about the Personal Balance Sheet conversations we have on Guys Trips. This framework has each guy rate themselves on a scale of 1 to 10 on how they feel they are doing in different categories of life (other than work). One of them is fatherhood.

Many of these guys I've gotten to know well and it surprises me how harsh of a critic they are on themselves. Very few of these world class guys rate themselves higher than a 7 when it comes to how they're showing up as dads. I struggle with this too.

When I dig further and ask what a "10" score would look like, the answer is some sort of unrealistic construct guys made up because it revolves around perfection. We're comparing ourselves to highlight reels of other dads.

Let me help you with that: Perfection isn't the target, intentionality and being present IS the target🎯!

Those are the TWO key ingredients busy dads focus on.
